Learn the Art and Craft of Telling Your Story – Skills workshop (Ashland, WI)

October 4 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In part one of this two-part workshop, participants will learn how to turn their everyday experiences and memories of the Great Lakes into stories. Attendees can bring stories they’ve already written or just come with ideas and experiences to draw from. We will discuss the five main elements of a story and how to discover them. By learning dynamic storytelling elements, you will gain the tools to pull short stories out of everyday life. Participants will learn how to turn an experience into a story that illuminates a connection, an emotion or a memory of the Great Lakes. These stories may even shed some light on what it means to be a human being. This will be an interactive class with a mixture of mini-lecture, 1:1 dialogue, and small-group work. The class is led by Jen Rubin, Executive Producer of Love Wisconsin, a digital storytelling project of Wisconsin Humanities.
